Beyond Expectations: Our Unforgettable Experience at Lukimbi Safari Lodge

We recently had the immense pleasure of visiting Lukimbi Safari Lodge, nestled within its own private concession in the magnificent Kruger National Park, and it was truly an experience beyond all expectations!

What met us was old-school Kruger charm, blending seamlessly with its surroundings on the banks of a river where many animals come to drink throughout the day. Our guide, Marcel and tracker ensured our afternoon drive was nothing short of spectacular. Over the course of two incredible drives, we encountered some of the most memorable sightings:

• Meeting a Big Tusker: We spent precious moments with one of the Kruger’s gentle giants, feeding peacefully on the roadside. This majestic animal is collared for their safety and tracking, a vital effort in protecting them from the ever-present threat of poaching.
• A Crash of Rhinos: We witnessed a crash of seven white rhinos, with one still awaiting de-horning – a sad but necessary job for the team working to keep them safe from poachers.
• Leopard in Pursuit: We had a thrilling sighting following a female leopard on a hunt, and later watched as she rested elegantly in the top of a tree, allowing us to view her at a respectful distance.
• Lion Cubs at Play: A pride of lions provided endless entertainment, with the females moving off to hunt while leaving their playful cubs in a riverbed for us to watch, climbing trees and eagerly awaiting their mothers’ return.
• The Rare Black Rhino: The crowning glory was the sighting of one of the most endangered animals – the black rhino. Witnessing a mother and her almost adult calf, inquisitive yet cautious, was breathtaking. Marcel, our guide, expertly advised us to keep very still, as black rhinos are known to charge without warning. Yet, she came closer, her calf following, giving us a rare glimpse into the amazing beauty of God’s creation – precisely what we aim to conserve and protect.

We truly cannot fault anything at Lukimbi – it is a gem within the Kruger itself. From the exceptional catering and delicious food to the amazing wine list, and simply the profound beauty of the bush and setting, every moment was perfect. A herd of elephants coming to drink as we prepared to depart was the perfect farewell.
