Hosana male Leopard

Hosana, fondly known as the “Prince of Djuma,” was born on February 2, 2016, to the renowned leopard Karula, making him part of a distinguished lineage often referred to as royalty among leopards. There’s speculation that his father could have been Tingana, Mvula, Anderson, or Gijima, adding to his pedigree.

Throughout his life, Hosana gained global recognition as one of the most charismatic and photogenic leopards. His territory initially centered around Djuma and expanded into areas like Othawa/Robson’s property and occasionally reaching Singita and Elephant Plains. He was known for his bold and confident demeanor, often seen mating with females like the Serengeti Female and Nkuwa Female.

Tragically, Hosana’s life was cut short in a devastating incident involving an anti-poaching unit. During a patrol in the reserve, he encountered the team in a drainage line at dusk, resulting in a fatal confrontation where he lost his life in what was described as self-defense on the part of the team members.

Hosana’s unexpected death in March or April 2022 has deeply saddened wildlife enthusiasts worldwide, marking a poignant loss for conservation efforts and highlighting the risks faced by wildlife in protected areas. His striking beauty and captivating presence have left an indelible mark on the world of leopard conservation, and his legacy continues to resonate among those who followed his remarkable journey.
