Since catching a glimpse of Tiyani’s second litter on WildEarth in mid-2021, I eagerly anticipated seeing them in person. While one cub tragically went missing in early 2022, Laluka, whose name means “To Grow in Wisdom” in Zulu, not only survived but thrived. During our final drive with Elephant Plains Game Lodge, I was thrilled to spot her. Initially, we caught only a brief glimpse before she vanished into the dense bush. After patiently tracking her movements, we were fortunate to see her emerge again. Captured with a 400mm lens on a crop sensor body, this moment of Laluka gracefully walking by was a mission accomplished and a truly memorable encounter.
