Kuchava’s Rainy Day

During our February 2021 drive at MalaMala Game Reserve, we spotted the Kuchava female leopard perched on a log, trying to stay dry after days of relentless rain. As the daughter of the famed Thandi and Mvula, Kuchava’s name means “scared,” but she exudes a quiet strength. We spent nearly an hour observing her before she gracefully descended to continue her journey. Eager to spot her cub from her third litter, we soon discovered him hiding under the log. As soon as Kuchava left, he emerged, and together they playfully walked off into the wild.
