Born in December 2006 to Karula, the queen of Djuma, and granddaughter of Safari, the first queen of Sabi Sands, Thandi entered the world with a powerful legacy behind her. Her name, meaning “beloved,” proved prophetic, as she quickly became a cherished figure in the Sabi Sands.

Though the smallest female leopard in the area, Thandi’s fierce personality and unmatched devotion to her offspring defined her reign. She earned her reputation for slipping away from safari vehicles with ease—fondly known as the “Thandi Slip”—and for her bold “Thandi Snarl,” a clear display of her protective nature.

Thandi’s life was one of resilience. She faced challenges head-on, becoming a fierce mother to her cubs, including Kuchava, Tlalamba, Thamba, and Maribye. Today, these offspring carry her bloodline, ensuring her legacy remains alive in the Sabi Sands.

In 2022, Thandi’s remarkable journey came to a tragic end following an impala hunt, but her impact endures.
