Dulini Moya – A Captivating Safari Experience in the Western Sabi Sands

After our wonderful visit to Savanna Game Lodge, we continued our journey to Dulini Moya, located in the western Sabi Sands. This luxurious lodge provided an unforgettable experience from the moment we arrived.

A Warm Welcome and Luxurious Accommodations

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a fellow Capetonian who now works and lives in the western Sabi Sands. After a warm welcome, we were shown to our luxurious 5-star accommodation/suites, each featuring a private swimming pool, outdoor shower, lounge area, and more. After freshening up, we enjoyed a delightful lunch on the deck overlooking the dry riverbed while elephants quietly fed in the distance.

Memorable Guest Encounters and Game Drives

We had the pleasure of meeting some amazing guests from the US who were on their honeymoon. After a lovely iced coffee, we embarked on a game drive with Brendan Davis, one of the best guides we’ve had the honor of accompanying. Our afternoon drive was filled with special sightings, including elephants and their calves, impala herds with baby lambs, and a giraffe carcass with vultures feeding—an exciting prospect for the next day.

As the sun set, we enjoyed a sundowner on the banks of the Sand River under a sausage tree. Our tracking team skillfully found the Ximungwe pride looking to hunt. We followed them through a failed hunt and ended the evening watching them cross the Sand River while playing and jumping on each other—truly a magical sight!

Dinner was equally special, with the opportunity to select a quality bottle of red wine from their well-stocked cellar. The night ended with the sound of lions roaring, filling us with excitement for the morning ahead.

An Enriching Bushwalk and More Wildlife Encounters

The next morning, David, our guide, suggested a short bushwalk during our drive. We followed the trails of fresh elephant dung and found the herd, watching an elephant bull feed undisturbed about 10 meters from us. David’s expertise shone as he explained the workings of a termite mound, allowing us to feel the heat from it.

Back on the vehicle, we found the Ximungwe lions again, this time on beautiful boulders in the Sand River, mere meters away from the giraffe carcass. Bizarrely, they never fed on the carcass, leaving hundreds of vultures to feed, giving us an incredible insight into the circle of life.

A Perfect End to an Amazing Stay

Our stay concluded with a lovely breakfast and visits to two of Dulini’s sister lodges in the area. Dulini Moya is a must-visit for anyone exploring the Western Sabi Sands. With amazing SADC rates and their valuable contributions to conservation, we highly recommend a stay with them.
